This weekend the APA held the singles regionals. This was a complete bust. They opened at 10:00 and I my first match was a bye. My second match started at 1:00 pm. Since I lost my first match my next match was schedule to begin at 10:00 pm. This is just not fair. You have to wait 8 hours to shoot again. Had I won my next match would have begun a 8:00 pm (six hours later). The reason the matches were scheduled this late was because there were a large number of players participating and they wanted to get done my 9:00 pm on Sunday. I feel that the period between matches was unreasonable. Who wants to sit around all day and watch other matches while in a bar. I decided to forfeit the evening match. I will not be partisipating in anymore tournaments as long as they continue to have these ridicous schedules between games. The APA needs to come up with a better way to conduct these games. Just my opinion.

Ronald .... I hear you! After reading your post when I got home last night, I sat and thought about what could be done to improve the event and cut down on the 'wait time' between matches for all the players. I sent my idea off to St. Louis and got back the following response from them this morning.
In green is St. Louis' reply ... in blue is my suggestion to them.
The players absolutely love the event ... however, this is one complaint I hear all weekend ... the amount of time between matches. I feel there is a solution.
Here's 1 scenario ...
Sat morning 9B High and 8B High Sat afternoon / early evening 9B low & 8B low Sun all day 8B 4's and 8B 5's and 9B middle (4&5)
send out in the flyer the starting times for each SL Bracket
11am Sat: 9B 6-9 and 8B 6,7 4pm Sat: 9B 1-3 and 8B 2,3 11am Sun: 9B 4,5 and 8B SL 4's and 8B 5's
Chances are that a player playing in both 8B and 9B will be on the same kind of boards, IE 8B 6,7 and 9B 6-9, so bringing them in together makes sense. You should always have 8B and 9B scheduled together, to make it easier on the staff getting out scoresheets on time ... while an 8B round is being played, scoresheets can be printed for the next 9B round, then while the 9B round is being played, scoresheets can be printed for the next 8B round ... etc ... all day. If we change the schedule here in the office, to something similar to the one above, after receiving one from St. Louis, there would be far too many players to contact (many from outside our area) to provide their starting time(s).
We just got home from the event. We ran 22 rounds in 2 days (11 Boards, 162 players - using 16 tables) ... 13 on Sat and 9 on Sun, starting at 11am both days. Sat, we sent out our last round at 11pm and left by 12:15. Sunday, we sent out our last round at 7 and left by 9:15. We sent each round out 15 mins. early and were on schedule all day, both days.
Just some food for thought, attempting to make the players APA experience an even better one for them.
Lee, We can absolutely make changes like the one you suggested on the fliers. Each regional is unique so we will have to see what the numbers are for your area in the fall and we can make time adjustments accordingly before we send out the flyer. You will have to hold more than one players meeting since they will be coming in at separate times but we can work out all the details as we get closer to the October event.
Thanks Amber Smith-Gutshall Tournament Productions Manager
I would like to hear from other participants about this proposed change. let me know if you like it, and if you played this weekend, how did you like the event? Also .... DO NOT USE THE DAYS AND TIMES I SUGGESTED (ABOVE) AS FINAL PLANS. WE WILL MAKE THE CHANGE, BUT THINGS MIGHT SWITCH AROUND A LITTLE FROM WHAT I SUGGESTED, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS AT EACH REGIONAL. (LEE)

Lee
had a great time, but I agree that the wait between matches can be too long. Played at 1pm on Sat and my next match wasn't unil 8pm.
anything to enhance the experience would be a plus
thanks again to You, Jane , Dale and the folks at Bank Shot for a great weekend.

I was Ronald"s match at 1pm and my next match was at 8pm and 3pm the next day.I can defiantly understand Ronald's point. I would like to thank Lee for contacting St.Louis and working on changing that to make us APA players more comfortable and YES I LIKE LEE'S RECOMMENDATION. Sincerely, Talal |

I like the suggestion. After 26 years of organized play, I confess that wait time has removed the edge from a win streak on numerous occasions. Anything to improve continuity is a plus.
