We currently have 98 teams playing out of Bank Shot we would like 2 more to make it a even hundred. On Tuesday night we have a 8 team 9 ball league. Last night we made it double jeopardy and added 6 8 ball teams which gave us 98 total teams. We would like 2 more to fill out the league so we are offering the 8 ball division for free. Anyone interested in playing should contact Rhonda at the APA office. The 9 ball still has a few opening for individuals, if you join both you pay 7 bucks for 9 ball, free 8 ball and no greens fee's.

LOU

Mahalo Cove will be hosting an 8 ball 100 dollar guaranteed singles qualifier on March 13 at 1pm. We have had a lot of players asking for more qualifiers outside the beltway in Va. The 100 dollars sounds like a lot but its the quickest way to qualify and if you don't win you don't pay. You get on a 4 player board, win twice and you're qualified. If 10 players show up 7 get qualified the other 3 don't pay. Lee Johnson will be running boards all afternoon.

LOU

Mike Sigel to conduct 9-ball Clinic at Big Daddy’s Billiards on Saturday, March 13th

Germantown, Md. – March 2, 2010 –Five-time World Pocket Billiards Champion, Mike Sigel, will be conducting a 9-ball clinic at Big Daddy’s Billiards in Glen Burnie, Maryland on Saturday, March 13, 2010.

This seminar is intended as a workshop for intermediate to advanced pool players. The seminar will cover all of the major aspects of 9-ball such as breaking, position play, ball speed, defensive shots and strategy. In addition, Mike is available to answer questions on 8-ball or evaluate a player’s form and stroke. The cost for this seminar is $80 per person and is limited to the first 12 people who register.

Richard Molineiro, co-owner, Big Daddy’s Billiards said, “We had a lot of positive feedback from Mike’s straight pool seminar back in January, and several people expressed interest in a 9-ball seminar. We are limiting the class size to only 12 students to allow for Mike to spend more one-on-one time with each player.”

Molineiro added, “It’s not every day that you can take a lesson from a former World Pocket Billiards Champion who has played against all of the greatest pool players from Irving “The Deacon” Crane to Steve Mizerak to Efren Reyes. The pool instruction is great, but just hearing some of Mike’s stories is worth the price of admission.”

Mike Sigel has won more than 106 major pool tournaments including three U.S. Open 9-ball Championships, three U.S. Open Straight Pool Championships and five World Pocket Billiards Championship titles. Sigel played himself in the movie, “The Baltimore Bullet,” and was technical advisor to Paul Newman and Tom Cruise in the Academy Award-winning movie “The Color of Money.” In 1989, at age 35, Sigel became the youngest person inducted into the Billiard Congress of America’s Hall of Fame.

To register for the 9-ball seminar, please call: 410-760-1332 to make sure that we still have room for you, and if so, then send a check or money in the amount of $80 made out to “Big Daddy’s Billiards” c/o: Richard & Cynthia Molineiro at the address below.
There are 3 replies, with the last one on 03/05/2010 at 11:57:57 AM by Lee Tiani
Quote:
We send out Division Handicap Review packets to each team on or about week 10 of the session. The goal is for each team to get together, as a team, with no outside interference and go over each player in their division to make recomendations as to whether that player should go up a skill level, or be moved down a level. And, most importantly ... WHY! Simply stating "He's no 4" or "She's better than a 3" tells me nothing and no action will take place.

A Division Roster sheet will be provided so that your team can see the current Skill Level of each player in your division.

Keep an eye on the Message Center on the bottom of your scoresheet which will announce that the packages will be in the next weeks envelopes.

If a player is raised by their Division Handicap Review, they will receive a Blue Slip in their envelope notifying them of the action. If a Team Captain feels that a player (or players) on their team were unjustly raised, they have the right to contact the Division Rep, who will then call a short meeting of the Team Captains. The Captain will explain why he/she feels it was an unjust move. After about 5 minutes, the Division Rep will ask the Captain to leave the room and will take a show of hands vote among all the other Captain present. If the move is voted as unjust, the Division Rep has the authority to make the change directly on the scoresheet, initial it and play commenses.

This gives YOU a chance to voice your opinion of the players you compete with, week after week.

Remember, just because your team suggested a movement, it does not mean the action will take place. Chances are that a player your team might question, had their one good night against your team. This does not tell you their true ability. It will take several recomendations about the same player, from several teams, with roughly the same reasoning to make it happen. After all, what if someone wrote you up? If we raised or lowered everyone that is suggested to be raised or lowered, after a few years everyone would either be a 7 or a 2 lol.

One thing to keep in mind when reviewing a player, is that good nights happen! You have had those nights where everything went your way - we all have 'those nights' (I know I did, back when I played in the APA). Should you be raised because of it? We believe that every player should be playing at their true ability handicap. Sometimes, this means that a player is rated too high and should be lowered.

Be fair, provide honest evaluations and I will review each of them personally.

Have Fun, Play Fair, Meet People, Play APA Pool! ...
